Info on SMART recovery

Just want to hear from people who have or haven't been successful with this program? I found a meeting schedule for my city and am nervous to try it. Would love some educated info on the program.

Thanks in advance everyone!

Hi Angela,

I haven't used SMART myself, but I know that many people here have used it and I've always heard positive comments. Hopefully someone will be along who can offer you their experience.

Yes, just go see if helps, if not try something else, keep trying until something clicks for you...everyone is different...take what works for you and use it....I have been to some Smart meetings, very non-judgmental...but, I also go to AA, have had therapy...so I am using a multi-layered approach...that is just me...do what feels right for yourself...take care

my friend attends both SMART and AA. She seems to prefer SMART.

Have you looked in the Secular forum? (scroll down) There's information on there!

I went to one meeting a few weeks ago and purchased and have been working with the handbook. there's a lot of good information to be culled from SMART.

I would be grateful if there were any SMART meetings in my vicinity. I do use the info from their website along with CBT, DBT and likewise secular treatments for alcoholism/drug addiction recovery. I also like the fact that psychological principles as with the before mentioned programs also help me live a more overall balanced life. Something I don't get with faith based mutual support programs.

The availability of secular recovery information has made a big positive impact on mental health wellness. Its meaningful and relevant to me, easy for me to understand and keeps me interested in learning more to practice in my daily life.

I'm with Zencat on this, I'd love to have a SMART meeting available near me! As it is though the nearest one is about an hour away...I may go sometime but it is too far to go all the time. I am lazy so I go to AA 2 mins away You can be the experienced one on this Angela, let us know how it goes x
