Drinking: A Love Story

I am reading this for the first time and WOW. This eloquent author has described me to a TEE. Such an amazing book. If you haven't read it, I heartily recommend it. I guarantee you will see yourself in many of the pages. An encouraging, insightful, and reassuring read!

I read a preview of it. Very interesting. Whats puts me off a little is that the author describes the booze too much. Does she get sober in the end? If yes I will read it too.

desertsong, I love this book. Have read it multiple times. I feel like Caroline is a friend! She has since passed on.

Have read 'Drinking' 3 times now. Of all the memoirs I've read, this is the best. My 2nd favorite is 'Dry'. Currently reading 'Best Kept Secret' by Amy Hatvany.

I read this book recently, very good but for me there was far too much about the drinking and too little about recovery.

Was so sorry to learn she had passed away.

Drinking: A Love Story is my all-time favourite book about alcoholism. Caroline Knapp tells her story in a raw and deeply realistic way. I think she was an amazing person. She died at a young age, but her book continues to inspire people year after year.

If you're interested in reading a bit more of her work, "A Pack of Two" is about her life in early recovery and bonding with her dog, Lucille. She redefines her new life, with Lucille's help.

Yes, I've read both books. And, like Caroline in recovery I became dependent on my dog. I've had four dogs since then. Like Caroline, three of my dogs are now gone. I wanted to meet her but I found that she had gone. I miss her even though we have never met. Is Caroline's dog still living? I'll bet that dog misses her too!

She kicked the booze only to die of the ciggies

I'm ready 'Mommy doesn't drink here anymore'. So far ok

It is a great book. It is a shame that she couldn't stop smoking. She died early of lung cancer.

Anorexia was Caroline's original addiction. The anorexia began in her very early twenties and paved the way to her alcoholism.

She wrote a book about her problem with anorexia called "Appetites: Why Women Want".

'Drinking' was the one book, more than any other I read in early recovery, than gave me hope.

We never met, but I knew this woman - she was me...gender aside.

I really recommend it

I was agast when I read it that this woman knew my secrets of monitoring everyone's drinking, watching the wine bottle level, even the secret stash just to be sure I'd get enough.

I needed to hear that sobriety was fun and full of laughter and wonderful strong successful people.

I hid the book from my husband because I was ashamed but totally gobsmacked that she wrote down all these secrets.

Highest recommendation
