Mindfulness has been a tool for me since starting back January 1st. I am working hard to stay in the moment. I have also been using meditation and yoga to let go of things that are stressing me out. I have not yet mastered this tactic, but I am working on it!!

I have written a long list of all the crazy things I said or did when drunk and keep it at my side at all times. As the days go on, I start to recall more and more. So embarrassing!!!

Believe me, I am determined none of them will ever happen again!!!

Divine Intervention

My turning point came after a big night of drinking at a friends and passing out on her couch! I am 20 years older than her and shud be helping her to recover from an overdose but here she was making sure I was covered with a blanket. Woke up the next morning so ashamed.

When I got home, I sat on the couch and I prayed to God for help like I had neva prayed before - begged him to help me.

7 days today and no cravings or withdrawals, which I can't believe considering the amount I knocked back!. I truly believe it was divine intervention and He is with me constantly. I've been given a second chance and am so happy. No more depression and no more blank hours.

For me it's always been don't be isolated, have others, whether here on SR or face to face that can give you a second opinion on things when alcohol sounds like a good idea.

Reaching out to resources outside of ourselves can be such a powerful thing in defeating addiction!!

Little things are huge! Being able to brush my teeth without gagging and dry heaving! Hold on to the little things...over time they become big things!

Have a plan for some form of activity when the cravings kick in, for most people this is the evenings when they are at their worst

Just walking it off helped me

Develop a network of people you stay in touch with so they know how you're doing. Or keep posting on SR.

Educate yourself and read books on recovery and the damage alcohol can do to your organs!
