I think thats a great decision HF.
I think you can be honest without needing to mention the A word, if that's a problem for you - living a healthy life is what you're doing and is a perfectly reasonable and valid excuse

Yay, I really don't like the idea of making up excuses for each and every invitation. Yuck, that's no way to live. Nor do I feel you need to tell anyone that you stopped drinking. I didn't tell people either. The first time I went out, I make up the antibiotics excuse and felt so bad. I knew that would not be my path. Being honest does not mean telling everyone your business. It means not lying. And, remember, ultimately you don't owe anyone an explanation as to what you drink or don't drink. And, it's rude if people ask.
