What is wrong with me?

I want to quit so desperately. I've been to rehab. I'm about to lose it all. I have a great supportive family, friends and AA and I can't stop. I don't know what to do. Please help me.

Hey John...Are you working the steps with a sponsor?....Or just catching a meeting or two a week?....I know when I was done....I did everything I could to not pick up...For one day....That's all I could handle at the time. Are you sure you are done?

The nature of addiction, is our biology waging war against the spirit within us that manifests itself in free will. It is hard, so hard, to get out of the habit once we are in it, but it can be done. It may be that you need treatment in a controlled setting, it may be that you need a spike of fear related to health or legel issues, it may be you need the spark of insight that can drive determination.

The only thing I can tell you for sure is that there is nothing more wrong with you then the fact you are human. Experiencing addiction is humbeling in that way.

Hang in there brother.

Hi John

If you feel rehab and AA haven't worked for you have you considered other programmes?

I'd figure anything's worth a shot?

Here's some links to some of the main players:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.

I'd really encourage you to become a regular member here too - daily reading and posting really helped me - I was an all day every day drinker for years - somehow being here, in a community that understood made me want to be accountable to the folks here, and to myself....and I refound a strength and determination in me that I'd forgotten existed

I know you can do this, John - don't give up...there is a solution out there for you...and there is life after drinking

D

John, read your old posts. I know how hard it is to stop, It felt like to me that someone would have to pry the drink from my hands, but no one was there to do that so I had to do it myself. Then spend every spare minute I had on here. I guess that's a bit like doing 90 meetings in 90 days too. Did you try that yet? You're going to need a lot of help to get through those early days. It won't just miraculously happen, you'll need to take action, and lots of it, and never pick up another drink. Sometimes I feel like I have no right to comment on posts like these because I don't have much sober time and this is the first time I've ever actually stopped but I think everyone has to find their own route out of this. I don't think any 2 recovery stories are going to be the same and maybe you will need to do something extraordinary to get you out of this but I think the chances are that only you will know what that thing is.

I will be thinking of you xxx
