After we found out that my wife will be having another invasive OB surgery soon, I stupidly bought a bottle of wine and proceeded to drink it all once I got home last night.

I stood there at Wal-Mart looking at their beers, and thought to myself that a little wine would be a better choice.

Boy was I wrong. Whether it be a cork, a lid, a cap, or pull tab, once I open it, it's on.

So, from this moment on, I'm going to be reading as much here as possible and also looking for more resources.

I'm an alcoholic. It's my burden and I screwed up. I cannot afford to let my guard down anymore.

I am so sorry to hear about your wife. But I am glad that you have realized that opening wine is not going to help the situation. Stay with your resolve. I am sending positive energy your way!!

Thanks. I thought I had it licked yesterday when I didn't order my usual beer at the Mexican restaurant, but then I did stupid last night.

If I ever let myself think that I can control the drinking, I do this. I cannot drink in moderation. It's just not feasible anymore.

I've come to the same conclusion - that I can't drink in moderation. Actually, if I'm honest, I never really wanted to drink in moderation. I always knew I was going to drink a number of pints of beer and never intended otherwise.
