Give me the best you've got

Hey All,

Hello again to some of you (relatively) old timers, greeting to you newbies -- and strength to all.

I've been struggling of late, but I want to wake up tomorrow to some inspiration.

So, give me what you've got. Your tired, your hungry, your poor, your platitudes... It's all fine with me.

But help me wake up tomorrow with the inspiration to have a sober day. I need it. Both the day, and the inspiration.

Thanks, Deserto

Welcome back Deserto
Bottom line...one sentence deal for me...

I can be the man I want to be, living the kind of life I want...or I can drink.

I can't do both.
I know that now.

Make the right choice, man

Free from the rinse and repeat cycle of drink hangover remorse obsession drink again. Sober is simplicity , can do anything at any time without having to worry . Hope you have a great day.

Hi Deserto,
I don't know what I can say to stop you from drinking. I could really relate to what DarkDays said, it being much simpler when you are sober.

I am not sure what you are going through at the moment but whatever it is drinking will only make it worse.

hang in there

When those thoughts of "a drink sounds so great right now. I know I have a problem so I will be extra careful. Just one or two, then there won't be that nasty hangover..."

Think of this:
One greases the pipe for another, then the second softens the judgement and clouds your reason. The third makes you forget why you even stopped in the first place, then the fourth seem automatic. The fifth you don't even remember going to go get and the sixth is a hazy blur. Beyond that....what?

When finally waking up from a drunken stupor the first feeling is a slow motion groan and the first thought is "Dammit"
The shivers, the pounding heart.
The writhe of agony because there is no position you can lay in that makes you comfortable and calm. Sleeping it off is a fallacy.
And that's all before you open your eyes.

The next 24 hours or more are sheer hell; fever, anxiety, shaking and the one thing you will wish you could do is go back in time and NOT TAKE THAT FIRST DRINK.

I was just there a week ago and I never want to feel like that again.

Stay.

I wish you peace and a sober, happy day!

Sure, I could drink .. or I could get hit by a truck. End up in the gutter either way.

Deserto, dark days is right, sobriety is keeping things easy,
dont have the first drink
dont have the remorse
dont wake up with a hangover

do feel good
do remember what you did last night
do like yourself

You reconnect with life when sober.

The peace of mind and contentment I feel now are why I won't go back to drinking. The choice is mine and I choose to live life, not just exist from bottle to bottle.

I think that inspiration is "I can't do this anymore" wether you wake up to that or not I am not sure, but I am thankful it finally happened to me.

Not drinking will always be a chore as long as you allow the possibility of drinking to exist in your life. Dragging that ball and chain around with you wears you down over time - it is patient and thinks it can win in the end.

Making a lifetime commitment to not drink sheds the ball and chain.

Think about it...what is your plan...will you drink again in this lifetime?

Thanks for your post, Deserto. The answers here helped me to call out my AV on a number of ways it was trying to creep back in, and reminded me of the terror I've left behind.

If the latter, then here is an organization stocked with people who have gotten sober.

Sometimes I think too much is asked of us. We are supposed to inspire you to get sober?

You want motivation? Read your first post to SR:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post3121687

If the carnage caused by your drinking can't inspire you to get sober, how is my telling you how wonderful sobriety is going to inspire you?

There are thousands and thousands of inspiring and supporting posts locked within the threads of this forum. Yet people still stuggle with alcoholism.

I'm thinking it's going to take more than inspiration from us...You are going to have to do the heavy lifting on this one Deserto. Get to work.

Good luck.

Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.
