What has happened in 50 days.

I realize it's not 60, but 50 just sounds like a good number.

I want to share this for anyone possibly starting out themselves. In the last 50 days I have:

Spent a TON of quality time with my son and family.
Vastly improved my relationship with my wife.
Made amends to friendships my drinking affected.
Had my biggest sales month ever March 1st-31st.
Expanded my business (2nd store opening May 1st).
Honed my grilling skills. (Fall-off-the-bone ribs anyone?)
Slept better.
Had more energy.
Hell I even paid my taxes on time.

What I haven't done:

Stepped foot in a bar.
Binge drank myself to oblivion.
Made an ass of myself.
Blacked out.
Experienced any hangovers.
Fought with anyone.

I'll take that tradeoff any day.

So for anyone just embarking on their path to sobriety I hope you can see what you can accomplish in just a short time. Granted, no 2 people are alike, and everyone has different lifestyles, jobs, etc.

How did I do it? I read threads here at sober recovery. Told myself each day "I'm just not drinking for today, I'll worry about tomorrow tomorrow."

When that seemed tough, I'd spend money on ANYTHING other than alcohol. Something for the business, a gift for my wife or son, extra groceries... anything to keep that extra cash away from a bartender.

The next time you feel like taking that extra $20 to the bar or liquor store, go to Walmart instead and buy a toy for your child, a gift for your spouse, or maybe simply your favorite junk food to indulge yourself with. It will instill you with a sense of accomplishment and self-gratitude.

You can do it, I promise.

I can relate, I got my taxes done so early this year!

The money saved in booze is not always saved, I'm livin again and I do buy a few non-nessecitys, kids and pet toys, wife got a few new things, things I was to drunk and selfish to do or buy before...

by all means it's time to live a little!

I still dont spend as much as I did on the booze,

On the iPad tonight so please forgive the spelling...
