What 3 main weapons do YOU use against alcohol?
1)Exercise
2)"Playing the tape until the end"- a great suggestion that I got here on SR. When I have a craving, I imagine every step of the drinking process all the way until waking up the next morning, realizing what I did, feeling awful physically and mentally, and having to start all over again.
3)My favorite drink: Seltzer, Splash of cranberry juice, and lime -there is something about this refreshing drink, bold tasting drink, that removes my taste for alcohol, every time.

This thread bring back lots of memories of when I was fighting very hard and trying all the usual things.
Some additions I didn't see listed here yet were little hobbies that kept both my hands busy. Joining others in non-drinking activities where the others wouldn't think about not drinking. Reading obscure Eastern philosophy, badly translated. Repairing things I'd broken while drinking. Planning and beginning intricate wood carvings. Landscaping. Taking a trip. Bird watching. Long wilderness backpacking trips. Long desert backpacking trips. Long bike riding trips. Beginning bonsai gardening. Starting needle point projects. Doing painting projects and small home improvements for others. Deciding to learn a language and getting some books. Smoking lots of dope. Stocking up with crates of soft drinks that kind of tasted like beer if I used my imagination. Going fishing until sunset. Committing to do free yard work weekly for poor old people.
Anyway, thanks for the flashbacks to those times. Felt like I was balancing on a tightrope for as long as I could stand it.
Thinking about it, probably the most effective weapon against alcohol is evaporation.
