goodbye grandpa

I just got news that my grandpa is probably going to die tonight. It's so heartbreaking because I am so close to him. The only people I really have in my family are my mom, my dad, and my grandpa. This is only the second time I've lost someone close to me (my dad's best friend died when I was 18). I'm just upset and really unsure of how to deal with the loss right now.

You have my empathy and sympathy.

I don't know how normal people do it, I guess they feel emotions. Have you gone to any grief sites? greif.net is one of them

Prayers, hugs & love,

I'm sorry for this news SD - prayers for you, your grandpa and your family.

I'm not sure anyone really knows how to deal with losses like these - but I know for a fact the way through is to deal with them, not running away and trying to numb yourself out.

Mine was a different loss but I still lost two entire years of my life getting drunk, not wanting to deal with my feelings...and I never really numbed myself enough anyway...no matter how much booze I poured on my pain.

It's ok to feel loss and it's ok to feel sad - it's a natural reaction.

Remember all the good times with your grandpa and lean on those who love you, just as they'll be leaning on you.

You'll get through this, SD

D

Hi SnowDaisy. I'm so sorry you are going through this. There'll be some down days ahead, or you wouldn't be normal - but try to remember that your grandpa would never want to cause you pain. I'm sure you'll see him again. Take care of yourself.

Sorry about your GP Snow. My last living grandparent died when I was 13, I had gotten to know him fairly well, but didn't really get to know the others and my aunts, uncles, cousins all lived hundreds of miles away. I hope you can remember the good times and get past this without the drink.

Stay close to your Higher Power and family. If you are in AA there will be lots of support there too.

All the best.
