Looking for help

I'm 25 and I've finally come to accept that I'm an alcoholic. Like many others I'm sure I never thought this would happen to me. I have a girlfriend that I love to no end and she doesn't even know it. I'm very good at hiding it. I don't know how to stop drinking anymore. I've stopped before. I know this has happened to many other members. I just need help now and I don't know what else to do. Any responses are appreciated and I'll fill in any information I've left out in this post if requested.

Welcome to SR!

I can't help you much, I came to AA when I was 25, but I "knew better" how to deal with me, or so I thought. 25 years later, the steps of AA saved my life, after 25 years of heartache.

Start by seeing a doctor to honestly discuss proper withdrawal.

I wish you well!

Hi and welcome Wakefield :)

I think support's very important - knowing I wasn't alone and that other people understood and had experienced the same things - really helped me turn things around, and you'll find a lot of that here - a lot of ideas about 'real-life' support too :)

good to have you with us :)

AA works for me, Wakefield.

All the best.

I've found a lot of support though the AA community and program. I couldn't quit when i tried to do it on my own and tried to hide it. Honesty has set me free. Good luck and keep trying. Sobriety is so worth it.

Hi Wakefield,

The idea of stopping drinking is often overwhelming. I think if you try to stay focused on the day and take things slowly.

You are not alone, and you will find lots of support and information here, so keep reading and posting.
