St. Patricks day support thread
I've got like 4 months sober and this weekend is the first time I have no family around since quitting this last time. OF COURSE, the weekend they leave had to be St. Patricks day weekend when the wholeee world imbibes in green beverages. I am quite comfortable now being sober but I know alot of people just quitting are not.
So here's to a sober St. Pat's....and no sunday morning green vomit!
P.S. if your lurking it's a great time to quit forever. Your life will be infinitely better, I promise!

We had some green bagels today. Tomorrow marks the 4th year since my red-headed ex decided to off himself, so sad, he didn't think we'd remember him, so he picked that day. I'll be at some meetings, then cleaning the house, renting movies, and out with friends. It's really just another day. I will call my mom in law (I didn't divorce her, so she's not my ex), though, it's hard on her.
Each day I drank didn't matter, why make a big deal out of another day, holiday or not? Celebrate it like a child would and have sober fun!!! I'll be researching St Patty's Day to find out as much as I can about it's history!

Some Irish blessings that might help us:
May the road rise to meet you.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live.
May the wind be at your back, the sun shine upon your face, the rain fall gently upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
I'm not sure how many of those are truly Irish, but I don't care. I like them.

Thanks for the support thread. I am not going to go out tomorrow, but I'm still slightly sad about it. Don't get me wrong- I genuinely like my life better this way (sober). I love St. Patricks day though and I think its the first time that I feel like I am missing out a bit. I can't go out with any friends as they will all be drinking. I have studying and other productive things to do, and I guess its just another day. *Sigh*
I am only proudly Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Am going to make corned beef & cabbage and am going to put a drop of green dye in my ginger ale and San Pelligrino. lol.
Learning to celebrate sober.
Have a happy and sober St. Pat's everyone.

Im going to "make an appearance" at my buddies daughters 1st bday party (just for the moon bounce! haha, actually I doubt they are doing anything big, shes 1).
Then heading to a BBQ at another buddies. Not drinking wont be tough, in recent years I had sorta transformed from Mr. Social Drinker to Mr. Solitary Drinker. But Im gonna be sharing that I dont drink anymore with some old friends for first time most likely. Ive been telling good friends 1 at a time that I quit drinking (for health/money reasons) and not really elaborating...if it comes up, Im gonna stick to that plan of attack. Maybe Ill tell my truly close friends the whole story later in recovery when time is right. Not worried though about pressure or whatever, wasnt uncommon for me to stay sober while social last several years (then leave to buy beer before midnight and head home to drink alone till sun up). So sad. Never wanna go back to that.

I plan to embrace it as I always do. Playing six sets of irish music (two gigs) and enjoy it as I always do except for two things . . .I am not hungover and sick as a dog (so I will enjoy it more) and I will be sober (so I will enjoy it more and remember it!) My beverage of choice will be a McDonalds shamrock shake
i have a brunch with friends this morning and afterwards I'm going to go home and watch some basketball with my fiancee while everyone else goes to the bars. Thank god I have her support. I'm also looking forward to some delicious corned beef and cabbage.

Have some good gigs Cat
Stick around here suffering - the first holiday is always a tough one - but you really can just think of it as just another Saturday...
find stuff to keep you involved and occupied....think of how good you'll feel waking up tomorrow sober
