Hoping AA really helps me tonight.
Hoping AA really helps me tonight.
I am having the cravings again, just like last night. I really hope AA helps tonight as it did last night. Not being able to drink doing the usual things (cooking, driving home, watching TV, going out to eat, going to the beach, BBQ's, Crawfish boils, etc.). I am still at a pretty akward stage with all of this. I have decided that I WILL NOT have a weak mind this time. I WILL NOT let this liquid dictate my life. With that said...damn this is definitely not easy. But hey, I am only on day 4. It can only get better, right? Am I really going to have to attend meetings everyday until the cravings subside? I developed this thing where I am clenching my teeth and its giving me headaches. On the bright side, my skin looks much healthier and in 4 days I have already lost almost 7 pounds. Probably all water weight though. Thanks for letting me vent. I still have 3 hours until my meeting.
Thanks,
Dom
Thanks,
Dom
Dom, you got through last night and you can get through today too. Go back and read the responses you got to your thread from yesterday, then rinse and repeat today.
Have an awesome meeting tonight.

Thank you for all of the encouraging words. I just feel like I am going crazy. Like If I don't go to AA, I am going to go drink, even if I have to hide it. I can't let myself do that. Im just sick of these withdrawls. How long does it usually last?
Cravings feel terrible, I found they are worse if I "awfulised" them and encourage thinking like " I can't stand this" etc. The bottom line is they will come, and they will go- if you accept them for what they are they are not so bad. I used to time mine and noticed they come in waves. See "urge surfing".
Urges and cravings are a natural part of getting to sobriety. They fade with time.
I also remember the cravings I had when I was drinking- that was hard as well.
I am 10 months and free of it all. I can go anywhere any time and feel free.

Keep yourself busy Dominica...Get a sponsor...Study the Big Book...Get working on recovery...The steps....For me the more I thought about getting better and being around people that had...The less I thought about drinking....Now I don't think about it at all...I know you have other things in your life you take care of..I take care of my 86 year old mother right now...I've done that the last 4 years and went through quitting drinking doing that...It wasn't easy...You know how I did it?...I took the time that I spent drinking and put it towards not drinking...I didn't realise I had that much free time...
Hang in there Dom - I know it's not easy right now, but you know drinking's no good for you - give recovery a chance - make the changes you need to in your life and really work this
Things get better - but you have to stick with it.

Alcohol is POISON and because I had no
program to live by each day before I entered
recovery in 1990, it was eating away at my
mind, body and soul.
For 21 yrs. I have been living and incorperating
steps and principles of my recovery program in
my everyday life.
I learned how many in recovery have stayed
sober for a many one days at a time added
together to get them where they are today,
happy, joyous and free before me and it was
exactly what I wanted.
They taught me with sharing their own ESH,
experiences, strengths and hope of what their
life was like before, during and after their drinking
careers so that I could do the same with those
following behind me.
Each time I share my own hopes with the newcomer,
I have stayed sober one more day for the past
21 years.
I dont know what the future hold for me, but i
have a gut feeling that if i continue doing what
Ive been doing then i have a good chance of being
sober then. HP willing.

Hey Dom. I did the teeth clenching early on too. Does make you whole head hurt.
It's going to get better. Just keep busy in recovery right now. The more you can do for your sobriety right now, the better off you will be. Lots of meetings helped me. Talking to other alcoholics, talking with my sponser, working the steps, hanging out as SR all got me through the first couple of months.
Don't give up.
God bless.

The meeting went well. It was womens group and they were very welcoming and just all around nice. I will be going to a meeting everyday. I have my daughter right now so I will attempt to make the 8:00 meeting tonight.
I strongly urge you to get out of your comfort zone again. Try talking with one woman after or before the meeting. Get a phone number and just let them know that you'll call if you get a craving and their voice can help you get through it!
A strong suggestion, but I did it, and it helps so much.
Playing with your daughter, getting into her play world, well, this may help, too!
Also the AA book is online, maybe read some of that today, too. Just suggestions that worked for me, once I actually did them!
Have fun!

Yeah, I went to a meeting tonight and someone threw me under the bus and I had to chair it, lol. At first I didnt want to but then I did it and I felt great. Like I was doing my part to serve the membership. I have to agree with sugar, getting out of your comfort zone really does help. You will gain confidence.
