night time cravings
night time cravings
I seem to get my worst cravings between 8 and 10 at night. How do y'all deal with night time craves? I'm eating a lollypop and drinking Crystal Light just to satisfy that oral fixation. Any other suggestions?
Take a hot bath.
Brush your teeth and floss (really!).
Go for a long walk with your dog (dog is always thrilled).
Practice a musical instrument.
Prepare food for tomorrow's work lunch and dinner.
Clean the kitchen. In fact cleaning is my harmless version of tweaking and can keep me happily occupied for 2 hours easily.
Bets wishes to you!

Been working on the kitchen. Gonna start some laundry. Washed up my face. I'm gonna keep up sittle distractions until 10, my bedtime. I wish i had a dog to walk! Probably clean the cat boxes too. At least it feels good to be productive.
A quick fix for me is drinking plenty of water. Also having a snack can work. Are you at home alone? If so, try to go out at all possible, sitting at home and doing nothing is the worst for me. Today I will take a solo walk my an mp3 player. When I come back, it usually feels better.
I was able to spend a bunch of time during my first weeks\months going to sleep and waking up early. I try to make a 'to do' list for myself when I wake. Now at 5 months I rarely have the evening cravings anymore, I do get them but some of the things mentioned above have also worked. Hope you find something else to occupy your mind, stick with it.
Lots of great suggestions!
I had a Big Book months ago. I need to relocate it. Gonna look around.
Lol, sugarbear! I already destroyed half a pint of cookie dough! I work at an ice cream shop! O.o

oh, and a late night telephone chat with a friend, that always gets me sleep, after the ice cream, then my night step work, then an AA speaker tape, curled up with my cat...she loves her belly rubs and our "nite nite stories!"
(I am powerless over the internet and my connection is unmanageable)
candy or chocolate also help, and I heard pistachios help, just don't eat too much!

I'm with sugarbear..... ICE CREAM!! My friend, who is also a recovering alcoholic, got through those first nightime cravings by eating ice cream while IN the jacuzzi, every night. Treat yourself.....do whatever it takes to not drink. Those cravings will subside.
I like everyone's ideas here (and can attest to the fact that ice cream does work!) I always have something to drink beside me. If I get in a really bad craving, for me, the quickest fix is coming here and reading so that the old tapes (justification, romancing the drink, etc.) don't start to take hold and I can feel the voice of reason instead.
Chop up the time if you have to and do it 10 minutes at a time. Before long it will get a little easier and a little easier........ Keep at it, displaced!

I can definitely relate to my mood plunging and my cravings skyrocketing as soon as the sun goes down. Almost like a mini seasonal effective disorder every night.
I'll pass along any tips, once I discover any!
