Drinking will never make you happy
It will NEVER do the things it tells you it will. It will calm, relax, help, soothe, etc.
It's all BS. Don't believe the lies. It won't get better, if you keep poisoning your mind, body, & soul.
You have to scream at it, " NO WAY AM I EVER GOING TO LET YOU DESTROY ME!"
Only when you refuse to give that vicious evil drink a second thought, will you ever be free.
There is no moderation for an alcoholic. Even if you stopped for 10 yrs. once an alcoholic, always....
Kick it to the curb. FOREVER, it is no friend to you.
You will survive without it & probably quite successfully.
Take control of your mind, thoughts, & ideas.
You can be victorious. Say NO. DON'T ARGUE WITH IT.

I just joined this site and it's my first day of sobriety with a true intention of quitting...not just saying I am because of a hangover which I have done countless times in the past.
Today is a new day hangover free and all. I loved everything you said. Iinspiration I needed to hear!

I agree... it's a total and complete lie that you tell yourself over and over again. That's why the ONLY way to stop is to face the truth within yourself... it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with other people. Just you and whatever higher/inner power you can find and be honest with! 96 hours just passed PurpleCatLover and I am really grateful to read your post. Keep it up!

Welcome Luvdogs! You will find lots of helpful info here. Keep reading & posting. I was fed up with myself failing over & over. I found SR, I found hope & encouragement. I've been sober over 7 weeks & I feel glorious. My depression, anxiety is gone.
Best wishes to you!

I posted this in response to the rash of relapses I've read the past few days. I'm heartsick over it.
I hate alcohol & what it does to people. It ruins lives, families. It tried like h$ll to ruin me.
I thank God I was able to break free & see "it" for what it really is. A Liar, thief, & ENEMY.
STAY STRONG! We can overcome this!!!

It's amazing what a relapse will do for your willpower. you quickly find out that all the time spent thinking and wanting to drink was a waste, still that drinking feeling tries to come back eventually, here's where logging on to SR and reading a few newcomer post's helps remind me of the grief. (I'm very much a newcomer too in case that didn't sound right)
