Medical Detox ...
Medical Detox ...
As some of you know, I've been on a week-long bender that is ending TODAY. Waiting for a call from my doctor's office to tell me whether I can do this at home on meds or if I should go to the hospital. This sucks ... BUT ... guess what? My alkie husband is in detox as I write this! He went yesterday. Wow. Nothing short of a major miracle. So we may as well do this together, he and I. If you pray, I'd sure appreciate your prayers for both of us, and if you don't, well, I'd just appreciate your good thoughts. We're trying again. One of these days, it's gotta stick.

That's good that both of you are coming off it, desertsong. If you are at too much risk for at home detox, they will usually just refuse to to help you with that. Be careful about the temptation to 'do it together', though. Couples are often tempted to say "let's do it together, honey," but this is often a recipe for mutually assured destruction. If one person caves, the other may think "screw it, they broke down first, and if they are drinking, why shouldn't I be able to as well?" (Glug, Glug, Glug)
It finally stuck for me, too - 4+ years after a lifetime of drinking.
desertsong - We are with you in spirit as you start your journey. We'll be looking forward to hearing how it's going. Congratulations on not giving up - you can do this.
