For me, working the steps with the guidance of a sponsor allowed me to see my behavior more clearly. It was not through judgement or condemnation; only with compassion and understanding. Working the steps is an experience.

The steps, as written, are what we've done, as a result of working the 12 steps.

Hi Duke,

For me nothing changed until I stopped drinking. There are lots of ways to stay stopped, but you must make a decision and stop killing yourself with alcohol and not drink.

duke, why do you drink? the answer to that question eluded me for a very long time. I think that so many alcoholics and alcohol abusers focus so much energy on preventing themselves from drinking that they overlook this question.
