13 days sober, struggling and saying hello
Hi, I just found this forum and am really glad.
I am 42 and live in the UK and have just finished a residential 8 day detox. Been home since Monday and am really struggling. How I got through today without picking up a drink I don't know but I did and am now laying in bed hoping tommorow will be better.
Well thats just a little bit about my situation. Look forward to talking to you all. xx

Sharzy - please don't feel alone with those feelings. I was the same way. It took me a few weeks to settle down, and about 3 months to begin to feel good and hopeful. I had been drinking every day, though - so maybe for you it won't take that long to rejoin the human race.
Be patient with yourself - we put our bodies through so much abuse - we need time to heal physically and emotionally. You're doing a wonderful thing by removing that poison from your life. We're glad you're with us - a new day is coming.

Hi Sharzy,
It gets easier...it really does. Your emotions will likely be all over the place for a while. Give your body and mind time to adjust and even out. There are lots of inspiring things to read here. You will see so many that have recovered...and you can too. Hang in and hang on

Wow. Thankyou all. I think I am going to like it here. xxx Well it's 2am in the UK so going to try to get some sleep, which has not been easy since being home Thanks again for the words of encouragement. xx
Welcome Sharzy. Hope you get some rest, but if not we are an international site so somebody is always on here if you are awake. I went through hell emotionally when I first got sober, felt like bursting into tears randomly in stores or at work. It gets better.
Welcome Sharzy!
Treat yourself with lots of compassion, good food and some vitamin B complex! Coming here really helped me get through those first few weeks. The evenings were the hardest, but I always woke up the next morning glad that I didn't drink.
It keeps getting better so hang in there!
