Mine is really too profound to explain. I prefer to keep everyone in suspense. Lol.

I guess I got mine while drinking too. When I would get going I would start calling people Missy. So the first time I logged onto SR, almost a year ago now, I thought it would be appropriate. The number is for luck.

Sparkydog--I love Soberbowl Sunday. It's the Soberbowl and it's gonna be a hell of a fight.

Mine is a pet name my husband used to call me, it's from an episode of The Odd Couple, one of our favorite shows when we were first going out.

This was fun to read! You guys are all so different!

Mine was originally going to be "word is bond", after a tattoo I have, reminding me that everything I say is equal to a promise - don't say it if you don't mean it!
Which leads into why I am working towards sobriety: I recently missed my grandpa's birthday due to a bout of binge drinking, broke my mother's heart because I said "I'll see you guys tomorrow!" then never showed up.

I'm hopeful that I can get back to being a woman of my word <3

August West is the protagonist in the grateful dead song wharf rat. hes a blind and dirty alcoholic vagrant who has lost his love and is telling his story.

" But I'll get back
on my feet someday
The good Lord willing
if He says I may
'cause I know the life I'm
livin's no good
I'll get a new start
live the life I should
I'll get up and fly away, fly away..."

There is a clean and sober group of deadhead's who would have meetings at setbreak of dead shows that's called the wharf rats. they still meet today at grateful dead related music events.

First three letters of my name and Sam was my beautiful kitty that lived to the amazing age of 22.

When I think of the bond I had with Sam, I think of the quote "I strive to be the kind of person my cat/dog thinks I am". Call me crazy, but I've asked that little creature for help many times.....she heard me

Mine comes from the Jill Scott song, "Living my Life Like it's Golden"

One of the first lines is, "I'm taking my freedom"

This is my attitude towards my life.

I was born on Oct. 6.

Awesome thread!

Instant is a variation on Winston, which is a name I went by once.

The variation seemed fitting for where I was when I joined. I was falling behind, and getting by in the moment in the wrong sort of way. I also knew that karma was creeping up on me.

It now reminds me that "I could be gone in an", and that I need to improve my skills in living in the moment.

Steps in Malay is langkah-langkah, but that seemed unwieldy so I used the singular.

Mine is easy, I ride bikes (a lot) and fix bikes in my spare time. People around town who don't know my name refer to me as "that bikeguy".

I'm a cat, and my fur is purple.

OK, not really. lol Purple is my favorite color, and I like cats (and dogs). Plus, I got to the name before purplecatlover. :P

That actually made me laugh out loud. Not sure why. Just hit a funny bone I guess..

My name is simple. Jim is the name of my dog and he is always sober.

Wow, this is a flippin great thread! Well my username is of the "pretty obvious" sort, I like food. I love to cook. And one of the biggest excuses I used to avoid admitting my alcoholism is "no real foodie doesn't drink." I used it to prove to myself that I can still hang with that crowd and sip my soda waters, that I didn't have to lose all of me to become sober.

I was tired of telling my kids "Maybe next time, dad doesn't feel good today". I wanted that reminder of why I was on here every time I logged in.

Foodie I totally get that " no real foodie doesn't drink". I LOVE to cook too. Alcohol took me out of the kitchen for too long. I'm back cooking with a vengeance.

Kind of a triple entendre, maybe a little satirical, a play on the phrase "Peace of Mind," which is what I am looking for, but also relating to my current mental state, where I feel I only utilize one piece of my mind at any given time, and also taken from the phrase, "Give you a piece of my mind."
