Mexico all-inclusive drunk, and sober.

In May 2008 (months before my drinking career came to an abrupt halt), my husband and I went to a wedding south of Cancun in Mexico. Stayed at an all inclusive (food/drinks) resort for 10 days.

Our trip went like this:
Wake up around 11am, crack a beer.
Head to the pool, swim up to the pool bar, drink for the next 5 hours.
Barely make it to dinner, pass out shortly after.
Repeat x 10 days.

Sober for 3+ years, we came back to Mexico for a similar trip.

Right now, I'm sitting in the lobby of our hotel in Cancun. A short trip, just hubby and I, 5 days/4 nights. Here's how our trips has looked in only 2 days:
Fly in, check in to hotel.
Stroll along the beach.
Delicious buffet dinner, lots of laughs.
Stroll along the beach some more.
Attend night show, laugh our asses off at how horrible it is.
Bed by 10

Wake at 6:30, long power-walk on the beach. Talked to local fisherman, got talked into buying junk by the wandering salesmen.
Breakfast at 8
Take the city bus downtown, walk, shop, laugh.
Eat lunch.
Lobster dinner cruise, very romantic. Virgin pina coladas are REALLY yummy.
Get a tattoo together.
Bed by 10, after sneaking some chips and salsa out of the snack buffet.

Wake at 6am. Watch the sunrise on the balcony, stare at the waves for a few minutes.
Breakfast at 8.
Planning my birthday dinner tonight, we'll take the bus back dowtown.
This is just our second day here, that's all I got so far.

Tomorrow we have a half day zip lines/snorkeling/ATV through the jungle trip, I cannot wait.

I'm so happy that I'm going to remember every silly, beautiful and peaceful moment of this trip. I'll remember the food, the good talks, the feel of the sand in my toes, the sun on my skin, the roar of the ocean waves just outside of our bedroom.

THIS life is beautiful..

Great post as it answered many of the questions I had asked myself about how an all inclusive would work now that I don't drink. It sounds A LOT more fun and memorable rather than just getting drunk all day and passing out by 9 or 10, not remembering a thing.

Thanks guys!

Coffeenut..I had no idea there was so much other cool stuff to do, and I can fit most of it in because I'm spending all my time rested, clear headed and not at the bar!

I only hope to go on a trip and be able to enjoy it without alcohol like you have, that's amazing!

....sitting for 5 hours at the swim up bar and not once getting out of the pool to use the washroom either

Lol Ghostly..I'm the mom of a 2 year old, its habit..and actually since getting sober I learned I love mornings!

It's strange, I'm sitting here in the lobby/bar waiting on the entertainment and this couple next to me are fighting..he's drunk off his ass, his wife is pissed, said they missed all the cool activities she planned for the day. Kinda eerie feeling all too familiar in one way, but luckily hard to identify with now.
