I'm also new. So glad I found this also. I can't go to AA, live in a small town & I've done well to hide my addiction. Functional alcoholic. Whatever that is. I'm tired of being controlled & destroyed by something that I CAN overcome. Read Beyond the Influence, great book. Good luck to you. 11 days & only getting better!

Thank you for that reply. I completely understand the term functional alcoholic... I have done it for years but it has caught up with me... Im tired of it also... but I still have days that I struggle and think it will help me feel better, although I know deep down that it will eventually hurt me and cause destruction. Once again thank you for sharing... your email was helpful to me and congrats for 11 days!

Butterfly... You can do it! I have struggled for 5 yrs. Found this site so inspiring. I am sick& tired of being sick & tired. Alcohol will NOT make anything better. It seems that way when you're drinking but the next day, problems are still there. And the hangover, and the guilt. I got tired of the battle in my head. Would give in just to stop the insanity in my alcoholic mind. But alcohol LIES. You deserve to be happy without a chemical. We all do. We can do it with each others help!
Glad you're here and getting sober! It always seems scary in the beginning - I felt like I was giving up the only thing I looked forward to every day. I had to get sober to realize fully how insane that was!
Keep reading/posting - this is a great community and we know what you're going through!:ghug3

Hey Butterfly and welcome to SR! This place really has helped save me from addiction and I've met people I feel like I have known forever. We are all in a battle that bonds us together like few things can. Keep posting and reading!
God bless.
