Home remedies and OTC's for WD's
I know that it's against the rules to ask/give medical advice, so that is not what I want. I would just like to hear about other people experiences with home remedies or OTC meds during WD's. I've read that a lot of people use Imodium and Ibuprofen. If anyone has been helped by other things, I would appreciate hearing your story. Thanks!
Cake is a good WD overcomer. My dad uses gum to stop the cravings of smoking. It's been 9 years for him since he quit.
I would be weary of home remedies or OTC ideas on here. Go to a Pharmacy and they will tell you exactly what you want to hear.

Thanks for writing, but I won't be telling any pharmacists that I am addicted to the Oxy's that I am stealing and need suggestions with WD's. I guess it is my desperation talking, but I'm figuring that any idea will be better than what I've been doing!
I'll be completely honest and tell you what you more than likely already know....please go see your doctor. There is no "home remedy" for detox that is why detoxing on your own is so dangerous. What you tell your doctor behind closed doors is between you and them and can't be shared with anyone so even if you have been stealing pill they can't turn you in for that, but the can help you safely stop.
Not medical advice. Just what I did: Warm baths for body aches and detox, immodium, watered down ginger ale,tylenol for body aches and hard candy to suck on. Sugar! Soothing movies and/or music. Electric blanket and or warm blankets to cuddle up with.
I had to withdraw from oxies while I was recovering from being hit by a car. Basically, I just stopped taking them after a brief tapering period. But, I was not taking them for any other reason that to deal with pain. The environment in which I was taking them was purposeful, not addictive. Even then, I had a few rough spots before I got over my dependence; fear of pain was one of the problems I had to deal with. I imagine that there is quite a difference in the way one looks at oxies if one is other than purposefully addicted.
I suspect that changing your habit environment would be more useful than substituting other drugs. Is there some particular time you associate with your taking the pills? If so, try to find something else to distract you. The same thing with activities you associate with taking oxies.
I am trying to shake alcohol addiction and this is the strategy that I use with moderate success. I suspect that before I have finally shaken my booze problem that I will have tried every tool available to me including (gasp!!) will power. I am doing pretty well so far but even so, when my old drinking time comes around, and I try to substitute a walk for a glass of wine, it ain't always easy.

Since you asked I'll tell you what helped me: lots of liquids for dehydration. Anti itch cream and benedryl (at night)for the horrible itches i had. Melatonin to help sleep. You may want to look into the benefits of vitamin B12. Most importantly, contact with others who have been through or are going through the same. This site has been a Godsend for me.
WD is not fun, but it's short term and the rewards are well worth it.

Lots of water, good nutrition, sleep if can get any the first few days, exercise, and plenty of hot showers. I took 3 or 4 very hot showers daily the first ten days when I quit using oxys.
If it gets bad, go to the er. Otherwise you just have to ride it out. It's tough, I know, I've been where you are at. But it doesn't last forever.
You can get through it. Just don't take anymore and hang in there.
