New here and new to sobriety

Hi, just wanted to reach out and say hi. My sobriety date is today 1/20/12. I newly unemployed again because of my drinking the the poor decisions I make when Im drunk. Dont know what will work, but drinking surely isnt working anymore.

Hi Buddy~~~

welcome aboard!

things could always be better, they could always be worse. take the pain of this situation, your recognition of your responcibilty for it, and use this terriable event to change your life for the better. You have already taken a step in the right direction.

Day 1 is a good day. You've made a positive, healthy step in your life and things will get better from here. What is your plan for staying sober? We are here to help.

Thanks

I dont know what my plan is except to keep looking at the wreckage that my life is because of my drinking. If I have to keep playing that tape over every day I will. I thought about getting a giant posterboard and putting in big marker all of the things I have lost and screwed up on it and plastering it on my wall.

Ive been to plenty of meetings. I like the social support and I dont mind sharing, but it hasnt helped me to even try and stay sober. At this point though I have to stay sober whether I go to meetings or not. My life is falling apart and even if I hate staying sober, its something I must do or I wont survive.

Welcome JBhere

I read your other thread too - sounds a bit crazy in your life just now.
Maybe you need a solid plan?

There's many different approaches and methods of recovery around.

here's some links to some of the main players:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...formation.html

I recommend you visit the Secular Connections forum if you think you may benefit from a non 12 step approach.

The main thing tho - whatever you decide to do - is do something.
In my experience, inaction just leads to more drinking....

Did you have a home Group, a sponsor?

You can go to many fine restaurants but if you don't eat anything.. you'll end up hungry.

I'm so sorry for your circumstances, JB..... I'm glad you're choosing this as a turning point to get sober, though. I put off getting sober for years and now wish I had done it sooner.

Put your focus on getting through the next 24 hours and give yourself a couple days to clear your head before trying to tackle anything else. When I got sober I had major financial issues too, but I knew I had to put sobriety first. Without that, I didn't have a chance at solving anything.

Hang in there and congrats on day 1!

Welcome JB. Keep reading and posting. Like others have said, find a recovery program and work it like your life depends on it, because it does!

God bless.
