Listing drinking accomplishments

I've been trying to think of one good thing that has come out of my 12 years of serious drinking. At times I felt I was very entertaining - comic relief; enchanting and charming. Truth be told, those adjectives had antonyms attached - boring - sad drunk; repelling; pathetic.

Bottom line - nothing good has ever come my way via the vino or vodka or the captain - it was certainly not southern comfort, much as I thought it was my social lubricant.

It feels wonderful to rid myself of this misconception - thank you all for the inspiration !!

That is all so horribly true Nonblonde! I am struggling to find a good thing too.
Let's stick to the good things about being sober.

Drinking beer made me the proud owner of a 200 pound body! Yay!

(Of course, the fact that I am a 5'4" woman makes that accomplishment not quite so great after all....)

Marius, this site has become a new best friend (along with this SR).

The Daily Plate Nutrition, The Daily Plate Calories, Nutritional Facts | LIVESTRONG.COM

Helps me make informed decisions about what I put in my mouth. For example, I know I an afford to eat the 35 Jelly Belly jelly beans I am currently having

Indeed for us the alcohol doesnt bring anything good.

But when we come to terms with it and face it , we now can love life and what is to come.

Thank you and Welcome .

Good love, Inda

There is one good thing that has come from it. My use of alcohol has brought me to sobriety. If I had never drank I would not realise the virtue of humility.

Want some of mine?

Seriously, my son has that problem and it's just as hard for those who are underweight as those who are overweight, but the underweight people tend to not be taken seriously. He's finally up to 135 (5'9"), but only because of his sport/weight lifting activities. However, I am not going to recommend beer to him as a weight gain tool. :P (Of course, he physically takes after my husband who drinks like a fish and weighs less than our son, at the same height, so beer probably wouldn't work for him either.)

I have several.....

-I once got my butt kicked by 5 or 6 guys outside a bar and only had a broken nose and bruised ribs. Not bad.

-When I wrecked my car I didn't hurt anyone or get caught by the police.

-I only had one DUI in my life and that was back in early college, I was a young kid.

-My wife only threatened to leave me for being a drunk, but she never did.

The list goes on but I don't want to inflate my ego too much. LOL.

These aren't accomplishments but they are things I told myself so to convince myself that I was fine and could keep on drinking.

Thankfully I don't have to live that way anymore.

I have quite the list too, which includes:

1. Slugging my husband and then drunkenly calling the cops and telling them that HE hit ME ... I got a night in jail for that one and barely escaped domestic violence charges.

2. Numerous falling-down-the-stairs incidents that earned me some fairly impressive bruises.

3. Other falling down episodes (Christmas Eve) that resulted in broken ribs.

4. Dings, dents and scratches on my truck that I don't remember doing (or what I hit).

5. Countless incoherent or abusive rants and tirades.

6. My propensity for removing my clothing when hammered. Thank God I mostly drank at home.

I could think of more but I prefer to stop there. lol Let's just say that my sober life is not as "interesting" but certainly a lot less humiliating!

The best accomplishment that our drinking careers get us is a ticket into AA where our lives are changed.

Best wishes and good luck.

Oh I have a good one. I got so drunk at my 25th high school reunion that I couldn't drive home. A few friends drove me over to my parents house. Of course I have no recollection of this. When I woke up in the morning it took me a minute to realize where I was. It was just like old times facing my parents being hungover and feeling totally ashamed of myself.

Then I had to drive home and face my husband, not fun! I stopped drinking for about three weeks after that. Then I started right back up again thinking moderation would work for me. HA!

I really like not feeling ashamed, guilty, and full of regret.
