Question TOPIC: Don't Want Too, Need Too, Have Too

TRUE or FALSE

I don't want a drink, don't need a drink,
don't have to drink.

Why or Why Not?

Hi im Sharon and Im an alcoholic.

Ive decided that TODAY I don't want to
drink, don't need to drink and don't have
to drink mainly because there's no good
reason in this world why I would want to
throw away all the good things that have
happened to me in the past 21 yrs. of my
sobriety.

There's no reason to hop back on that
merry-go-round that makes me dizzy in
the first place and add chaos and confusion
back in my happy healthy life.

Why or why not don't you need to drink
today. Why or why not dont you want to
drink today? Why or why not don't you
have to drink today?

This is for you and no one else.

So true. I don't want a drink, don't need to drink, and don't have to drink because I want to show myself and the world the authentic me. Thanks for this, Sharon.

I don't want a drink, don't need to drink, and don't have to drink because.....

......I actually enjoy living life on lifes own terms. I like having feelings...yes, even sad ones. It is so much better than being totally void and numb. I like the feeling I get when my Mom tells me she is proud of the woman I am...even at 46 years old!!! I like the fact that I am a good Mother to my Son.

Way to many reasons to list why I choose not to drink today...thanks Sharon, it is always nice to have a reminder of how much better things are now

Well, I DO want to drink, I'm almost 2 weeks sober though . I don't need to drink cause I actually feel great not drinking! I don't have to drink cause I have convinced myself that I REALLY am an alcoholic, and I must quit now while I still can (without a treatment center). But most of all, I WILL NOT drink today so I can enjoy tomorrow
Thanks for this.

I don't want to drink because I already have 5 days behind me.

I don't need to drink because I am through with the worst of withdrawals and the feeling that I NEEDED a drink is what got me in trouble in the first place.

I don't have to drink anymore!! The end. : )

I don't want a drink...Because I can't drink. I don't need a drink...Because I didn't drink.
I don't have to drink.....Because I don't want a drink.

It doesn't matter if I want to drink, need to drink, or have to drink. I won't drink, today, or any other day, because I made a transcendent decision never to drink, and never to decide again. I no longer have the option of even choosing to drink; the option has been removed.

How many years did it take for you to figure that out?

Because I've found a solution and a better way of life sober. I'm been released from the burden of alcohol.

Thanks SR for sharing your own ESH with
me and others traveling the road of recovery.

What you share is not only helping yourself
but giving hope to others looking for help
with their own addictions.

I may not have much to do with it. There were lots of earlier days where I decided that I didn't want to drink and did, that was common.

It might be (and I'm sure will be) explained in different ways, but today my perception of alcohol is not what it once was. I believe I see it differently than both wet alcoholics and normal drinkers. There's no threat there and there's no relief there, and I don't see it anymore as a gateway to the fantastic or something which will lower my fears or smooth social interactions.

I don't want anything about myself altered, and I don't want to hide. I don't want anything about you altered either. The idea I once had of bending reality to suit me is laughable for a number of reasons now.

Hope my life in sobriety continues changing in interesting ways.

I've been drinking three-quarters of a bottle of whisky per night (nothing in the day) for ten years. Do NOT have any bad feelings in the day time, at all, but gagging for it by 5.00pm.
Seven days ago today I had to start some strong antibiotics and it gave me the perfect reason to stop drinking after doing so every day all my life (I'm 50). Years ago, I used to drink even more!
I have not touched a drop for seven days and it's been hard but I'm pleased.
I'm now worried how I can keep this up - I want to STOP !

Looks like this site is a little out of date.
But for the record, Day 20 today, after more than 20 years constant drinking, and did it cold turkey.
It seems just as hard, every day.
My wife said : can't I enjoy just two glasses of wine? NO! I'd be straight to the shop to get another bottle (well, that's the risk) so NO!
