oh my, I wasn't expecting that ending at all. So sad. Brought me to tears. I know from my studies that alcoholism can significantly increase the chances of cancer. This year alone I've had several colleagues be diagnosed with cancer. I had one friend die - who never touched a drop of alcohol. I had another commit suicide and he was in dire need of help from alcohol and substance abuse. I know this could be me, although it's so easy to point and say, oh that's him, not going to be me. Thanks for bringing this show to my attention. I'll be thinking about it in the days and weeks to come.

I am watching it now. Thanks.

Stories like that ARE sad. That said, I was usually able to forget them before too long and I was ALWAYS able to convince myself that "my case is different" and that those things will never happen to me.

I do see, when I watch something like that, that as an alcoholic, my ability to ignore the obvious is amazing. I've got a history of not seeing my truth, running from reality, and seeking comfort - which I usually found (temporarily) in a bottle.

For an alcoholic of my type, I needed something more concrete..... something I wouldn't forget.....a whole new way of living and a whole new way of thinking that was 100% reliable, 24/7, rain or shine, around booze or not, with or without support of ppl around me.

Luckily for me.....and those of you who may be like me, just such a solution exists in AA.

I clicked on it. Said no videos are available at this time.

Try it on a computer and not your iPad or iPhone.

Inca 01-08-2012 08:43 PM

I got the same message Mammy, will try on a computer.

Dorito, I LOVE your symbol (strike through wine glass). As a reformed wino, it's right up my alley.

Thanks! Whiskey was actually my preference, just couldn't find an avatar like that. This one gets the message across--NO BOOZE FOR ME :)

TY,
I also watched Jeff's story and that was pretty sad as well

*spoiler: The fact that his wife died two days into her attempt at sobriety from a seizure is an incredibly stark reminder for everyone to get treatment at hospital or a facility if at all possible.

Ditto all of the above. :)

These are sad sad stories that could be about any of us and they play out every day without a camera.

There is no sense in putting off getting help and the risks only become more real.

Finally watched it, very sad. And the cancer was very scary. Felt bad for his little boy.

I'm just bumping this thread, because the full episode is available again. I used to classify myself "high-functioning," much like Bret did, but it's pretty clear that our bodies don't always recognize that status.

Bret Full Episode - Intervention - A&E

Bless his family.

I clicked and it say's not available in my area. (Ireland) strange mus be another way of seeing it.

Halzuzu 10-23-2012 11:49 AM

So sad. I used to watch Intervention because it made me feel better about my own addiction. I would watch with my Vodka rocks and say to myself "These people are much worse off than me". Now I watch it to remind myself why I stopped drinking.

soberjim 10-23-2012 12:35 PM

No kidding....Stuff the major companies don't want you to see..

All they want you to see if smiling, beautiful, successful people drinking. Not the reality for alot of people who drink.
