on a business trip (Tired). Hi functioning-Haha

Hi All... I am tired. Tired of the "double life" that I lead with the booze. I will get up in the morning and do my job (somehow). Really just tired of living like this. I don't really need advice as I know what I need to do. I realize we all have a story to tell. I appreciate everyone on the SR website.

my only advice would be do what you know you need to do, anyway GoMan

I remember the effort I used to put into drinking - and then into trying to appear 'normal' the next day, trying to hold it together....

Madness.

Hi Man!

The day I quit drinking I sat witha full bottle of wine (the big ones of course) in the fridge and a glass in front of me...it took me 3 or 4 hours staring at that damn glass to finally realize it took a heck of a lot more work, strength, effort, whatever to keep drinking than it would to quit.

It sounds like you feel the same way

Business trips can be deadly.

Let me guess, you are drinking in a hotel from by yourself because no one (wife, etc.) will know that you are drinking.

Tonight when you get back to your room google AA meetings in whatever town you are in and then go to one. When they ask if there is anybody new in the group, raise your hand and talk.

Bingo Zebra! Road trips are tough from a lack of accountabilty standpoint and I have gone to meetings in the past while traveling. Since I am back at day one, that will be part of my plan moving forward. Thanks

when i find myself in situations like yours where i can rationalize the whole "nobody will know" business, i have to remind myself that I AM SOMEBODY! I would know. And that's all that matters, unless i'm willing to slide back into the nasty dishonesty that was so familiar during my drinking and using days.

How do you think I know this?

Been there, done that.

i love going on trips now. i just ahve to plan ahead, find the meetings near where i'm staying, and make sure i make those meetings. going to meetings in other parts of the country is a real joy and boost to my recovery. we are never alone unless we want to be.

Instead of waiting for others to guess what's going on with you (Bingo!), stating the facts might help you begin to stop the double life you say that you no longer want to lead.

Stating you're very tired while on a trip...

Enough practice in telling the truth and before you know it you'll have only one life.
