Even though deep down I KNEW I was taking a risk even if I took one drink.
this jumped out at me because you say you know you take a risk. but from what you've been saying a year ago and now again, it seems that what you call risk is, in fact, a certainty.
that's how it looks from here, reading. it also looks like the view from your point is different...?

Hi Japanguy and welcome!!!
I couldn't face "forever" either. It was so daunting. It took me 2 years and 3 medically supervised detoxs to finally realize I don't need to worry about "forever".
I only focus on staying sober TODAY. That's it. So much more manageable. Focus on today and before you know it you'll string together great sobriety.
Last year you mentioned a newborn. How is she? I bet she's adorable!

Japanguy, sorry I have missed your post until now, I totally relate to your OP, and I resembled that a lot towards the end of my drinking career.
I'm glad you found us and it seems that you're doing your best. Hope you're feeling better and welcome to SR, such a great site with lot's of great people, as I know you've already discovered.
