New to this (almost day 4) ...help!

Hi everyone! So excited to have found this site AND to be sober. It's the longest I've made it in 12 years, but I'm worried. Before finding this, random sites came up with a ton of seizure / DT warnings about quiting 'cold turkey' but the timelines were conflicting. Some said it's most dangerous within 72 hrs, some say they can occur without warning up to 2 weeks later. help!

Hi clancydog

none of us are Drs, so I won't muddy the waters with more speculation.

the very best advice is to see a Dr if you're worried, or otherwise feeling ill

Welcome to SR

Welcome clancydog! It's great to have you here.

Just speaking for myself, the worst was over by the 3rd day. Yes, detox can be dangerous - so as the others said, check with a doctor to be sure you're safe.

Hope to hear more from you - congratulations on your 4 days!

Those timelines are just guides and there is no one right answer. See your doctor, or if you don't have one, get to a clinic where you can detox safely.

Clancy. You came to the right place bud! If you feel OK thus far and don't see your doc you may still have problems. If you are toughing it out then make sure to go to the ER with anything scary, don't wait. See it varies widely according to each individual. So heed the above advice!

Keep reading here. We have problem drinkers, or alcoholics, whatever you prefer, from all over the world here. So someone is almost always here 24/7.

Start by doing a lot of reading and post a lot. That is how you get answers. Just like you just did.

Once again welcome, and congratulations on making the best decision for the rest of your life.

Clancydog its wise to be careful. You drank 12 years you didnt say how much a day and whatnot. I did go cold turkey after four years of drinking pretty heavy alot of the time. I ended up in the psych ward.I understand some of the medical aspects of this but im not a DR. I know you need medical supervision. Call your docter as soon as possible.
