Resentment: Emotion of the day?
I realize my emotions are all over the place right now given that I'm new to this whole sober thing, but resentment keeps glaring me in the face today....not just general disappointment in people, but extreme hatred even towards people that are not even in my everyday life anymore. Its really disturbing me. I heard these thoughts start to go away after working the steps. What are your thoughts on this? Are these feelings common?
Hi Inca
I think it's pretty normal for our emotions to be all over the oplace and they can often be pretty strongly exhibited too.
I figure I walled my feelings up with drinking for years - now the dam had burst - it took a little time for me and my feelings to find their 'level'.
I haven't done the steps, but for me, they did go away with a little time and work on myself - I basically realised I was lucky to be alive - so to be resentful after that was kinda petty lol.

I know how you feel Inca. My emotions are all over the place as well.
When I did a fourth and fifth step the first time I got sober, it did get rid of a lot of that nasty stuff.
Sometimes it's just a matter of choosing not to be resentful. Sometimes that choice has to be made daily for awhile before I stop thinking about it. I share them with my sponser and he tells me to pray for those people, places, or things that I am resentful at for two weeks. Usually after the first week the resentment is gone.
By the way, I'm getting ready to do another fourth and fifth with my sponser very soon.
God bless.
