Hi there, finally decided to give it up and join a forum like this for support. Im 41 and Ive been abusing alcohol since I was 16. Im not a daily drinker but I drink at least once per week and when I do I drink way too much, usually between 15-20 pints of beer, sometimes even more. Im tired of the hangovers and wasted days recovering and the health risks, expenses etc..etc..... I waste $200 per month sometimes even more just to get drunk/hungover. Im tired of it !!! I've tried to just have a few drinks before but it never seems to work. I also can leave 2 or 3 beer in my fridge for a week and I wont touch them until I buy another dozen or more to go with it so I can get drunk. Time for this to stop ! Thanks for letting me vent lol !
Welcome to SR! Your drinking pattern sounds just like mine. Taking it one day at a time and visiting this web site has helped me achieve 38 days of sobriety. Thinking it through and keeping the memories of the horrible hangovers fresh in my mind has been instrumental in my wanting to change. You can do it! Welcome aboard

Welcome, Mark. You're in great company here. Although I'm not a frequent poster, I have learned so much from reading the posts in these forums.
Just think--if you stop drinking today, you'll have an additional $2,400 in the bank by this time next year. Plus you'll be in better health and probably have a lot more positive memories. These benefits are what I try to keep in mind when I think about having "just one drink."

Welcome Mark!
I think you'll find a lot of company here - I don't ever remember having a drink or two and thinking "maybe I'll have a Coke now." It was always "just one more."
Glad you're here - keep reading and posting!

You certainly came to the right place. I got sober with the help of the folks here on SR. If you keep drinking as you now realize, it will only get worse. So what is your recovery plan?
Welcome Mark,
I have never added up the cost of my alcohol but the stupid things I did and wrong decisions I made were incalcuable.
I really value waking up sober and being able to plan my day and know pretty much it will go as planned sans booze.
We are all here to support each other and help each other to stay sober. I visit here at least once a day it grounds me and I believe that everyone who posts is helping someone esle whether they are aware of it or not.
All the best

Hi Mark, I am the same, I would never just have one or two drinks if I knew I couldn't follow them up with a lot more...
Do you have a plan for the money you will save by not drinking - maybe a one-off purchase or a holiday or something? I am certainly looking forward to saving a few quid I would otherwise spend - although to be honest that's the least of my motivations!

Well Itchy, I dont really have a recovery plan. I think when I get the urge to drink in the evening Ill go buy a magazine or book to read and maybe something to cook etc....to keep me busy and Ill try to plan something fun/productive for the next morning/day that I wouldnt want to do with a hangover. Hey......I might be onto something here lol. Not sure yet what Ill do with the money I save.
