I just wanted to say thank-you to all that contributed to this thread. It's made me reflect on where I was a few months ago when I decided to become sober to where I am now. I realize that although I have a long road ahead of me, I have done so much to shed my 'drinking thinking'. Its been eye-opening reading, especially to those of us early in our recovery who are working hard at a recovery program and therapy (*raises hand high*) Thanks again.

I went ahead and pull the plug. Couldn't wait until the 1st, though that was the original plan. The idea to get was hatched while eating XMAS lunch alone in a diner. You know the kind that would be open on XMAS. After that I knew I had to quit and quit then.
Don't wait to start a new beginning. After 10 years, i'm 3 days clean. I will though I may have a chance.

I too will be rejoining the community on January 1 and look forward to being a determined and supportive member of the class of January 2012.
In advance I offer my support and encouragement to all who will be starting the New Year off on a positive note and to everyone else that is at any stage on their quest for betterment.
We can :help each other do this.

My situation is that I have not drank in 45 days and not planning on drinking for awhile. Im in rehab as we speak and am planning on a real recovery plan that I tend on following. However Jan 1 I plan on quitting smoking pot and ciggerettes. My schedule allows me to not do anything this weekend so after that its grinding.
I like the idea of a fresh start. New year fresh start.

Jeb18: I'd say that, for me, quitting weed (high daily through-out my 20s) was not anywhere near the challenge of giving up the cigarettes and sadly I still smoke cigs from time to time. But many people have successfully quit.
Best Wishes.
