going to ireland in a couple months
Don't worry about a couple months....worry about today. Worry is fear of the future...you can have some solid sobriety before then. Don't let that alcoholic voice start whispering in your ear already.

soberbrah - a couple of months can bring great changes...if you;'re committed to recovery and are prepared to do the work required.
There are sober people in Ireland - you can join their ranks

That's cool, make sure you look up a lot of places to go that aren't just drunk magnets. My anxiety (social phobias) keeps me from taking even small trips, but it's not really the fear of drinking, more a fear of taking the first step.
That's a pretty honest thing to post here - and it suggests to me, you've got a lot more thinking to do, soberbrah, not just about Ireland - but perhaps quitting drinking in general?
Maybe a trip to Irelands not for you right now?

The stress you feel is probably excitement about fulfilling your dream.
An alcoholic who wants to drink would think 'since it's a given I'm going to be a drunken ass in the pubs, leave a bunch of dart holes in the old walls and **** off the locals who will ridicule me among themselves and I won't have a clue about it, I may as well warm up before going so I'll be on top of my game when there and not be caught by surprise until I've insulted the locals enough to get my jaw adjusted.'
Have a great time in Ireland. I drove the length of it doing AA meetings when we stopped in different towns. Great folk. What's cool is you can ask any guy over 40 where the AA meetings are at in town and they can tell you.

Lots of recovering alcoholics in Ireland too. We would love to see you and there is an AA website which lists all the meetings in any county you happen to be in. There will be lots of support here too....
