Pain in my throat from my last day of drinking
I wrote my first post this morning and am on day 2 of this journey. I have a question though. I got sick on Saturday night and my throat is still really hurting. It doesn't burn, it feels like it is strained or something. When I swallow it feels like there is a lump at the bottom of my neck. It is hard to eat and drink. I think it is a little better today than it was yesterday, but it is scaring me.

My throat is killing me too! I thought I was having an allergic reaction... I think it's stress. Maybe you just have a bug... I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac, but if it keeps hurting maybe see a doc! Feel better!

When you said "I got sick" does that mean you were puking? I don't know about you, but when I drank, I didn't eat, and when I puked, it was all bile, alcohol, and probably caustic stomach enzymes. That really took a toll on my throat if I puked a few times in one day. My routine for those days was puke, drink down more vodka, repeat....that is like a chemical burn in the throat over and over, literally.
If you're talking about a sort of "muscle" pain in your neck, then yeah I got that when I would throw up too.
I only threw up a few times and when I did, I sometimes thought I was going to give myself a hernia I was vomiting so hard. So yea, needless to say I would have a pain in my neck for the next few days. I would also feel a lump in my throat that was hard to get food around. Your mileage may vary though.

I had a similar problem a few months back and went to see an ENT specialist...She diagnosed me with an ulcer on my larynx and said it was due to acid reflux. She put me on a regimen of two different antacids and the problem resolved itself in about 1-2 months.

My experience with a sore throat came from a whole mess of vomiting from a binge - the stomach sickness lasted a few weeks. I would drink as much as possible, throw up, and then drink more. Makes me nauseous now just thinking about how ridiculous I was acting back then. As another happy-crappy result from that experience was a swollen/irritated esophagus, which meant I couldn't eat solid food for around 12 days, and not much more than soup for another week or so. Even swallowing liquids was a chore for me then. That was likely the worst I've ever felt as a direct result of my alcoholism. It would get so bad swallowing anything at all that I could literally pass out from pain as food and liquid seemed to get stuck in my chest just below my throat.
Not sure if that's what you're experiencing at all, but that's how it went for me at the tail end of one of my benders. I lost about 9 kg as well during that period. Definitely don't recommend it as a weight loss program though lol.
Like I said, get to a doctor.
I'm not a doctor and don't play one on TV but I had something similiar when I was drinking. Remember alcohol has a relaxing/numbing effect. If your esophugus is relaxed it will let the stomach reflux back up (or if you threw up) causing discomfort. Once your body is ridding of alcoholic effects you will feel the pain.
Same as a hangover -but in the throat. I don't know if this is what you have so consult your Dr. asap.

Thanks for all the replies! My throat is feeling better today. It still hurts, but definitely better. I must have pulled a muscle in my throat from throwing up the other night. Lovely. Lots of cold water has been helping the most. Thanks again for the replies.

If you drink shots, like I do, and talk loudly over music then it is possible that you did some type of damage. Don;t panic, just go to the doctor....
