Thumbs up Miracles really do happen!

Today I am four months sober! I am so happy and excited. I honestly didn't think I was going to be able to stop drinking this time around.

I have been sober for 8 years and then 9 years at a time. Then I relapsed for four years. The disease had progressed so much that I was so hopeless at the end that I kept a bottle of pills that would have been fatal had I taken them in my nightstand, just in case I couldn't take living anymore. I ceremoniously flushed them this morning, then cried for an hour, just out of relief and happiness that maybe, just maybe hell is over.

I know I have a long way to go, but hope is returning. Just in these four months I have had to faced so many adversities (mostly as a result of my alcoholic behavior while drinking), but have had so many things work themselves out as a result of my clearer thinking and the beginning of gainiing some semblance of self esteem.

It has not been easy, but SR has been my main support. If it wasn't for you compassionate, non-judgemental, kind and wise people I am not sure I would still be living. Thank you for helping me save my life. I was (and still am to a certain extent) very, very sick....but I am getting well. Thanks to everyone who helped me...I no longer feel alone, and I feel that I have friends that understand what I have (and am) going through. I owe my life to you.

Bless all of you. Elizabeth

Congratulations ((Sissy))!! I love your posts, and am so glad that you realize you deserve a life free of the "numbing out" stuff we used to do!

Congrats Sissy,

A wonderful heartfelt post. To flush away the pills, certainly says something about your strength and confidence in your sobriety. Glad to hear it.

I posted after reading these replies to say thank you for responding to my post, but for some reason it did not appear on the forum. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate you taking the time to say congratulations to me (tears in my eyes). Thank you so very, very much. I wish that I could hug all of you.....you are still with me even after knowing "my secrets". Bless you all. (My dogs and I are going to a canine Christmas party to celebrate tomorrow - ha.)

Sissy, we are truly a family here and the understanding we have of what each other goes through is so important.

I am so, so glad you are doing well.

SissyElizabeth, I am so happy for you - if you were in front of me I'd be afraid of hurting you, I'd hug you so tight

Behind you all the way Elizabeth - inspiration, indeed!!
