Hi
Hi, I am new here, I am a student in my 20s, I have been an alcoholic since I was 17 when I started drinking with my friends. When I first started I knew that my habits and my reaction to alcohol was alot different from anyone elses and that I could not enjoy the 'fun' that can come with drinking.
At 17 I would drink a bottle of fortified wine (ABV 15% UK 750 ml) and that would be me drunk. I would do this most fridays or saturdays. It wasnt until I started university that I realised that I had a problem.
I was violent towards members of my family one day when I came home and after this my relationship with my family has not really been the same.
I live with my girlfriend who is my world and my life, we have a baby on the way and it's the best thing thats ever happened to me.
I have sworn to everyone in my life that I am not drinking anymore but I still am, I get drunk in the morning and by the time I meet everyone in the afternoon/evening no-one notices because I have sobered up enough to act normally.
I hate who I am, but everyone loves the real me, the sober me, I drink to become someone else.
My addiction is always worse in the winter months and right now I feel more hopeless than ever.

Welcome to SR! You'll find a ton of support here and good advice. It sounds like you've recognized that you have a problem so that's a good first step. Now you need to come up with a plan to get sober. Are there any meetings you can attend or any one on one support that you can reach out to? They will help greatly, along with this site. Good luck to you.
