AA Meetings Negative- Any Alternatives?

I'm trying to stay sober and have gone to a few meetings. The AA meetings I have been going to have been really negative though. Not being a negative person, they seem more counter productive for me. Are there any alternative programs that take a different approach? Thanks!

The meetings I attend are not negative at all... Try another meeting!

Minx-

I never went to AA, but I went to see a counselor for some one on one therapy and also used this website in my recovery. I felt uncomfortable in groups at the start of my recovery so I found one on one support to work great for me.

I don't 'do' AA either, but see my addiction counselor once a week which helps a lot. Also daily visits to SR help very much also.

I don't do AA - been reading up on recovery - Rational Recovery and using the support from this web site.

The #1 most important attribute that someone can have to stay sober - is the commitment not to drink again.

Find your way there anyway you can.

Good luck.

Try the different items on the list until you find something you really like a lot.

Welcome to SR!

AA is not for everyone, but also I agree that not all meetings are negative. Don't let a few rottten apples spoil the apple cart.

Whatever you do, don't let the quality of meetings get in the way of your recovery. If AA is not something you are interested in there are a lot of alternatives.

Take care.

Thanks!

For all the replies. I'm going to try a SMART meeting tomorrow and I do have an appointment with a counselor on Tuesday. Though I'm skeptical due to future job insurance questions.
