Geno-

Try to stay busy and hang in there you can do it. If you just sit and stew about going to the liquor store, you probably will. Try to stay positive and remember what your last hangover felt like, usually works for me.

Eat something sour, or something that you would never consider eating while drinking a beer. Stay busy and the craving will go away. They usually last about 7-8 minutes. You can do it.

Drinking water does help. As yo466 said, try keeping your head up about your sobriety - If you keep thinking negative you'll end up picking some up.

What will you accomplish by picking up alcohol? You're wasting money on something that's destroying the only body and mind you have.

Be careful with those energy drinks. They can really get your blood pressure up and cause a lot of nervousness and anxiety.

I am at a party where everyone is drinking. I am just picturing the flammable poison called alcohol. You can do it if I can.

This might not work for you, but it did help me....I bought a large bag of hard candy sourballs. Now, I normally don't like sourballs, but when I would get the craving for a beer, I'd pop one of those in my mouth and the cravings went away. Just the thought of having a beer with something so sour my eyes would water, just never appealed to me.

Like I said, it may not work the same way for you, but hey, a bag of sourballs is only a couple of dollars and if it keeps you from buying a six or twelve-pack, it's definitely money well spent. Hang in there, guy!

I like honey and peanut butter when I am craving, chocolate works too but when I'm hungry I eat something filling and healthy then go for the sweet stuff.

Well, I couldn't do that because I used to love to eat Milky Way bars and drink beer. I loved sweets with beer. So, the opposite was what I needed. Sourballs did the trick for me.

Well, no matter what...anything is better than the booze.
What I started doing when early in sobriety was try to break my habit. That is part of your problem that you are so used to drinking that you are at wits end because you're not sure what else to do.
Even though any time of the day was drinking time -usually night time is when you really miss it...so I would get a big bowl of ice cream or popcorn (or anything really) and start a new habit. This way instead of waiting till beer thirty I was waiting to indulge in that big bowl of ice cream.

What helped me in the early days was to remember in the most excruciating detail the worst moments of drinking...which for me was on my knees by the toilet, skin clammy as I retched. The taste is beyond foul. The more of that I remembered the less desire I had for alcohol.

Good luck! It sounds like you have a good plan

Memories of ridiculous hangovers have also kept me sober, I also went crazy with sugar early on. Hang in there, remember your a non drinker now. Live that, your not missing anything good.

I've also been wanting to drink tonight. I decided to stay in this fine Saturday, skipped out on someone's birthday party so I wouldn't drink. Thinking of the next day's hangover is keeping me sober so far.

I'm actually looking forward to just relaxing with some green tea and watching SNL. Something I haven't seen in a long time because I'm usually too drunk or passed out or blacked out!

I figure that if I go and open that stupid beer that a "friend" left in the fridge I'll have to go through this craving again the next time I quit. I eat crazy amounts of candy like I haven't since high school. Somebody's gonna drink that ice cold beer but it isn't going to be me.

You could always poor it down the drain. Then, you wouldn't have to envision it.
