urge surfing
This was perhaps the most valuable tool I learned here early on. And it goes far beyond managing urges.
I use it to manage anxiety, depression, fear... Really any emotion I don't like to feel.
I was first introduced to this technique here at SR, but was exposed to the idea by therapist, books, and general online searching.
I cannot emphasize the importance of learning and practicing this technique enough. The more you use it, the better it works.
Seriously. Read into it. Search YouTube for it. Examine the idea thoroughly from all angles. Practice using it over and over and over.
This can become the most powerful tool in your bag too and can help with just about any negative feeling you have!

We're asked not to have too many stickies, so we incorporated a lot of links into this sticky post:

this was a technique that helped me a lot in the early days to deal with cravings.
It's all about observing our craving - trying not to be a part of it, if that makes sense?
We can feel the feeling, but we don't need to act on it - as simple a concept as it is, that was a real revelation for me
We can, if you like, learn to surf the 'wave' of our cravings...and not end up wiped out

Hitting the sack now. It’s almost midnight. But this post will be my study for tomorrow. Thanks Dee.
