Newbie on Day 5
I've been a moderate drinker for 25 years. Then, for the last 10 years I have been a heavy drinker consuming 2-3 750ml of whiskey/gin/vodka per week along with some beer and perhaps 2 bottles of wine per week. I drank every night but seldom during the day. Nevertheless, last Friday I decided to try to take back control of my life.
I think I've been fortunate in that my withdrawal symptoms have been fairly mild so far with some insomnia, night sweats (first 3 nites) and already I can sense the mental fog seems to lessen each day. The toughest part so far is the 5PM hour when I usually would start my daily drinking campaign. The cravings are definitely there, but I know I can overcome them. Thanksgiving will be a challenge, but I think I'm up to the task and looking forward to my 6th day sober. I'm fortunate to have a very understanding and supportive spouse
Wish me success on my journey!!

WELCOME!!!
I think the first 3 days it's kind of easy because you feel so crapy. It is/was after that when I started to obsess and forget the horror of what my life had become. Even now with two not so fun relapses I still obsess and wish for the old fun days of drinking. they are gone, alcohol turned on me and now its not fun but it still wants to pull me in and slowly kill me. So here I/we are! Not such a bad place to hang out though! .

Welcome to SR Bimm! I know exactly what you mean about the 5pm cravings. They can be very difficult to overcome during the first few days, but it does get better. Hang in there! It sounds like you are off to a great start!
Welcome Bimm!
Congratulations on making a great decision. Getting sober felt a strange at first, but like anything else, with a little "practice" it starts feeling normal (and good!) Glad you've joined us!

Welcome to SR! I'm glad you found us!
I was able to be successful in my recovery after many attempts, and SR has been a big part of my sobriety plan. I'm sure you will find the same support here that I have.
Best wishes!
