Hello
Hi, my name is Nick, I live in Switzerland though I am
British, I'm 43 years old and I've been alcohol dependant
since I was 19. I am an aerospace engineer and I've been
able to hide my addiction whilst I worked until in 2008...
When I was diagnosed with herniated disks in my back
and was medically retired, this means I have my same
salary every month and not have to get up in the morning
to go to work so the last three years have become an
alcoholic haze and I want to stop. I've had many "stops"
But I can't get past more than five days...
I suppose this may sound familiar..
ATB, Nick.

Welcome Nick
My drinking escalated when I was medically retired too - I found joining this community was really helpful not only for me in re-connecting with others, but also reading about others lives and struggles helped me better understand my own, and helped me work out what I needed to do
you'll find a lot of support here

This is a great place
Nick,
I have found that this site works best for me. I am in the same position "kind of" as you are. Which means that I receive an income (I am not retired, I work 10 hours a week at most from home) and have a lot of income and a lot free time. I was in that haze as well. I found the tools here.. they are exactly what I needed.. I just had to decide to use them.. I hope you find solace here.
Idle hands do the devils work..or something like that..

11 days!!!
Wish I could get that far, I've never got past five and that was only
because I was in hospital after my hernia operations a few years back...
I went out and got drunk the day I was discharged..
Welcome Nick. I recently retired and knew that my alcoholism could take off. I also knew after 30 years of drinking that it was finally time to do something about it. Recommend spending a lot of time on SR to aid in your recovery and use whatever tools you can to succeed.
