Day Two

Well, I got through Day Two. Staying in a nice hotel in a wonderful city and instead of going to the hotel bar after my business meetings, I went shopping. Accepted the offer of a make up application at the cosmetics counter at Macy's and spent a small fortune on new make-up. But I spent the same amount on alcohol in just 3 days and had nothing to show for it but a wicked hangover. Funny how I hesitated at the cost of the makeup but never hesitated at the cost of alcohol--even at the outrageous price of $20/glass at the hotel bar. So I am very proud of myself. :slider3:

way to go Marine! I can totally relate to the weird economics of drinking. I think it has to do with self punishment. I'll spend the money on something that is poisoning my life in every respect, but I won't spend the money on things that are on the side of actual pleasure. So, this is an important shift for you. I hope you really enjoy your new make up!

I'm getting through DAY 1. I am feeling edgy and tingling, just like everyone said I would. I'm also getting a wicked headache. I struggled to walk by multiple liquor stores, wine shops and grocery stores and NOT go in to buy anything. Instead, I bought some Oreo Cookies (which I never eat but really like). Tonight I ate way too many Oreos, but that's better than getting plowed. I just wanted to check in and say that I'm looking forward to Day Two as well.

Good luck with Day Three tomorrow, Marine! I'll be looking for your post.

Good job-you are discovering what I have been discovering which is that life becomes more rewarding when you're not constantly drunk. Now you have some fab new makeup which you wouldn't have afforded or bought if you'd been drunk at the bar. It gets better too. Keep it up!

Marine, Congratulations on Day 2:) I find I do the same things you did. Ways to pamper and nuture myself every day. It really does help.

LOL I used to baulk at food prices when newly sober - then remember I'd have no qualms spending twice that much on booze :)

congrats on day 2 marine :)

Marine. Congrats on day 2. The headaches stink I'm still getting them. It they're not as bad. I love make up and good for you for spending your time that way. It must be difficult not drinking on the road. I tried that once. Was on a business trip in London. Made it 2 days. Then went back to drinking for a year -

Congratulations and looking forward to you posting on your day 3 experience

Good for you Marine! It amazes me how willing I was to pour my hard earned $$ down the drain. So much richer now,in many ways, with sobriety. It gets better every day!

thanks Marine. How are things going? (I can't PM until i have 5 posts). Unfortunately, i didn't make it to day 3. I'm now on day 1 again. I have a bunch of books to read because I think that will help. And I'm feeling very tired and crappy. But looking forward to feeling better. Hope you are doing well:thanks
