Back Again

Hello. I have been trying to quit drinking for 6 years. I woke up today and decided today is going to be it. Have had one too many scary episodes.

Was on this site way back then and again a few years ago, but each time I thought I could "control" my drinking and it has only gotten worse to where I have blackouts a few times a week.

I am on a business trip and this where it's the hardest. Anyway, just thought I'd give it another try.

Thanks.

Hello Marine28, Today is my first day, I too thought I could control it. up until last night when I was in the hospital. Business trips are the worst for this. Stay safe!

Congrats on Day 1, Marine28! I am only on Day 3 but I definitely understand how our minds trick us into believing we can "control" it. I keep fighting back the voice in my head that wants to think I could have just a few drinks and be a moderate drinker because obviously I can't or it would have already been done, right! Keep on with your sobriety, it will feel so much better when we can be more in control of our own lives and not let alcohol have the power!

I know exactly what you mean by thinking that you could "control" your drinking. I have been telling myself that for the past 17 years, but have been unsuccessful every step of the way.

Thanks for the quick replies. It is very hard. I am just trying to get through one day at a time. I am still a bit "sick" from my drinking last night. I am on the road for the next two weeks so it's going to be tough, but I need to do this.

Welcome Marine28! Yes, its very hard - but so is the drinking life. We have to admit it's not fun or relaxing any more.

Like Jester1025, I insisted I had enough willpower to just have 'a couple' now and then. Rather than admit I needed to give it up all together, I tried to moderate for years & failed spectacularly.

It sounds like you're ready this time - here's where the insanity can end. You can do this!

Well I survived my dinner meeting without ordering a drink and instead of my normal heading to the bar for a nightcap I came back to my hotel room and am watching TV. Made it through Day One. Thanks for the support. On to Day Two.

Hi, Marine! If we take it one day at a time, then every day is day 1 - for all of us!
