going today

I'm calling now to get myself checked in for an inpatient rehab. I'm waiting for a call back, but does anyone know what you bring or how to get ready?

I haven't been myself so hopefully someone can give you better advice but I just wanted to say congrats on the big step of calling! I would bring your own pillow, comfy clothes/shoes, pjs and any prescription medicine you are prescribed. When you get the call back they will answer any questions you have, if the rehab facility has their own website they usually lay out how everything will go and what the checkin process details so you may want to check that out. Congrats again!

If you have a favorite stuffed animal, bring that too! My fiance went to rehab a few years ago and she definitely found comfort in such things...

Ask the rehab. Many items are not allowed. You're going there to save your life!

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm not sure it's going to happen, my insurance says I don't need inpatient. ugh.

Is there a state run facility? Sometimes you neeed to call daily & be desperate enough to get in. keep trying. Or, call & ask the rehab if they have scholarships or a sliding scale.

How desperate & willing are you? Go save yourself!

You can also contact the Salvation Army as they have a GREAT Rehab and it is free. May not be as 'posh' as some of the ones that insurance pays for, but has a good recovery rate for those that 'enmesh' themselves in the program and then use the 'tools' upon getting out.

Love and hugs,

Good Luck Harley..!!

I went to a private clinic when I stopped and dont even remember packing never mind what I took lol..!!

Dont stress too much about it as anything you need will be able to be provided.

All you really need is yourself and your desire to quit.....that will be enough to be going along with..!!

AOF

P.S. You will obviously need to be clothed, dont just turn up naked singing show tunes..!!!!!

I sounds like you think you're in trouble harleyq so I hope you can work something out

Like Laurie said, the SA is always an option.

There's also this national database - you can find local rehabs here and a brief idea of cost etc.
A lot of them have sliding scales based on income etc...

Thanks Dee. I'm just anxious to get in there. I'm now stressing about taking the time from work and what they are going to say.

Does your work know of the problem, when I went in I told them and they were very supportive.

Mind you when I came out I quit but that's another story..!!

Humour got me through the early days and is still helping nearly 7 years on.....you will find you get your (proper) smile back pretty quick..!!

Hang in there, Harley. My insurance turned me down for in patient too, but I squeezed every penny I could out of my savings and somehow made 30 days work. Mine cost about $3k, so I don't know how much you're looking at, but there must be something out there you can afford, or if not then I would check out the Salvation Army approach.

I don't know what you do for work, but I was able to qualify for short term disability for my work which put me out on FMLA protected leave that was paid at something like 70% of my normal income. Depending on what you do you may want to check with your employer's HR department.

Keep me posted on what happens. Rehab really turned my life around 7 months ago and I haven't been the same since. It sounds like you are determined to go, which is a really good sign in my mind.

Best wishes!

Thanks Josh, I will look at the salvation army. FMLA is probably my best option. I think my work does it. It's inspiring to hear how to made it happen. Thanks!!

I've been to treatment twice, once covered by insurance and the other I paid for ($3000) but they let me spread the payments out over a period of time. It was definitely worth every penny!

As far as what to take, don't bother with anything that might have alcohol in it (mouthwash, cologne, hand sanitizer, etc.). They'll probably take your cell phone. Comfy clothes/shoes are the best. Also, take some pens/paper.

I hope things work out for you. You could tell your boss you have a "personal medical issue," but I usually opt for being honest when I can. Good luck!
