I have been sober for 6 days I have never been sober before, so i stopped drinking with my Doctor's supervision last week. it has been up and down this week emotionally, but i seem to be stabilizing now. I went to my first AA meeting yesterday. I thought it was really intersting. I have been drinking for maybe 20 years. Just wanted to hear from others who have been through all this. looking forward to the future........... |
Welcome to the family.:) I quit drinking for good almost two years ago and don't regret a minute of it.:) I wish I'd done it sooner. My health is better, my attitude is better, and my whole life is better. I love living sober!:) |
For me it's been getting easier - well after Day 6 - that seemed to be peak day for me - actually not thinking about drinking 24/7 anymore lol. Glad you're hear - give up drinking - it's really not fun. |
(((GhostDogg))) - congrats on your 6 days!! There are many, many people here who have been through, or still going through similar situations. SR has been a huge part of my recovery. Really helps to get ES&H from those who get it. Hugs and prayers, Amy |
welcome aboard GhostDogg :) D |
Hello, and welcome. It took me a looong time to 'get it'. Don't let that discourage you. I now have 22 months sober after a 20 year heavy drinking career. Life is SO much better. I'm grateful for God and evey day sober. I wish the same for you. |
Welcome!! Just remember there will be good days, bad days and everything in-between, learning that the rough days will pass took me a few weeks to get comfortable with. Best of luck to you!! |
Good luck to you and to all of us! And welcome. I've only been around a week but the people here are great! When you get the urge, come here and vent. You will get almost immediate replies |
Congratulations on Day 6! It does get easier and easier as long as you stay positive! Keep your head up and look forward :). Welcome aboard. |
Congratulations and welcome! |
Congratulations and welcome to SR!!! :) |
Thank you! Thanks for all the positive comments. Was kind of a rough weekend without drinking, but i am still sober and going to an AA meeting this afternoon. |
pros and cons Get a sheet of paper and post all the pro's and con's of drinking...... My "con" sheet is so hard to look at, just negative, embarrassing, regretful stuff. The "pro" page is positive, hopefull and embraces each new day. I admit that I am not a "normal" drinker and can never go back. I'm only 7 days in, but I'm looking forward to experiencing the pro's of sobriety. Keep positive and strong. |
GhostDogg - way to go - yes weekends are the worse for me but I hear they get a lot easier. You just need to establish new routines. I'm on Day 12 and its getting easier - just having to knock down the thoughts of "Maybe I can just have a few at that wedding" ugh - those thoughts are the worse. Hi Cardinalfan - good to see you going strong as well.:a122: |
welcome. :) awesome. good luck with your AA meeting today. |
CardinalFan Thanks for the good idea about the pro/con list. thanks to everyone who replied to my post for keeping me postive. |
welcome and good luck on your sobriety. I have tried replacing my drinking habits with exercise and it works wonder for me. just a suggestion :-) |
