Nothing changes if nothing changes.

Well I find myself stuck in a 3-4 month relapse cycle.

When things are going really well I get complacent.... and maybe there's a part of me that wants to knock myself down when things are going too well.

I need to make a plan to break out of this cycle.

I want to go back to AA and do it for real this time -- get a sponsor and work the steps. I *know* AA will work for me if I really do it. I have had some pretty bad experiences with AA out here. I also have some major hangups in the higher power department. I'm not really sure how I'm gonna get around that one.

I think I'm just gonna waltz into a meeting and take it as it comes. Hopefully I will find someone I can be really up front with about my higher power problem. Faking my way through it didn't work last time and it won't work this time.

My wife reminded me that I was doing really well when I spent time at SR every day, so I'm going to spend time here again. I miss all y'all

Welcome back Goat
Sounds like a plan man

I didn't do AA but the way I see it - I had a higher power in the group of people I lent on for support. They didn't let me down and they made a difference.

It worked for me.

Hi Goat,

I am over 5 months now. I am keeping sober with AA meetings and this forum, it seems to be working, a day at a time.
I am going to 2 AA meetings tomorrow, the second one I don't feel so hot about but I am going to make myself go because one day I want to feel comfortable wherever I go , I need the practise.
Looking forward to reading more posts from you.

Goat, if you haven't been p.o.'ed or irritated at an Aa meeting, one just hasn't been to enough! Ive been in Aa for 14 years so I know. You can do your soul anyway you wish... Don't let that stop you. There are lots of right minded folks there that the power of the group is the higher power. I think that's absolutely true and I am a religious person. For me, i know that God works powerfully in everyone regardless of their beliefs.

I really appreciate the warm welcomes!

After I had been away for a while I felt like I'd abandoned all my friends here. That should have made me come right back, but instead I let it keep me away.

Well, clearly that was a mistake! I am very happy to be here

Second day of my hangover today... It's not as bad as it could be, just feeling a little slow.

I stayed here and read most of the night 'cause I sure wasn't gonna get any sleep!

I hate that fall asleep and then awaken with a start over and over thing.

The desire to drink the hangover away is not as pressing as it was yesterday.

Are you willing to believe something other than your way works? Take the steps.

There are also other programs out there. At least get to meetings so you aren't alone.

Best wishes!

Yeah, my way hasn't been working, and I've been doing it that way for almost 10 years.

That's clearly broken! My mind is wide open to all possibilities at the moment.

I'm feeling much much better this morning. I even rode the bike to my client's office today. AND I wasn't the only nut doing it! I passed five other bikes this morning

I was pretty chilly this morning, but it should be really nice for riding this afternoon.

Yeah... I need to ride my bicycle a little bit too to try to get myself into a little better shape.

But it's 40 miles to this particular office. That's pushing my limit on a bicycle, and I definitely wouldn't have been here when they wanted me to get here.

On the other hand, 45 degrees (F) is not so cold at 25 miles per hour as it is at 70 miles per hour!

I find having the AA group as a motivating force towards further sobriety (my idea of a HP) has helped me enormously.

Here's a link to a SR post that has an article titled: Should Atheists Join AA

I think you will find it helpful.
