I'm new at this kind of thing...

I don't drink and have no addictions....but my dear girlfriend is an alcoholic by her own admission. She joined this site last week while I was away visiting family. She is now in day 7 of recovery which I am very grateful for and proud of her for.
Seeing her like she is now is a great deal different than seeing her "loaded" which was/is very difficult for me to deal with. It was/is very frustrating to see this wonderful person try and destroy herself with her reckless drinking.
I've tried to remain positive and patient with her and have encouraged her to seek help for over 3 years now. While I can't tell her what to do, I can only hope that my influence on her is a good one and she hopefully completely stops the torture of drinking which is clearly impacting my relationship with her on several levels
Any suggestions anyone might have would be appreciated...Thank you!

Hi,

Co-dependency traits and behaviours comes to mind as something you may be interested in exploring both for you and your gf.

There are forums here Friends and Families which deal in depth with living or otherwise sharing a relationship with an alcoholic sober and / or drunk.

Best advice I can give you right now, without knowing details, is forgive yourself and forgive her for any past difficulties. Otherwise the past can destroy any chance of a future together. Tolerance and courage will be needed to carry on forward. Sometimes, seperation is required for both individuals to move forward with all honesty.

All the best, for you and her.

Welcome rockerking! :)

My only suggestion besides reading all the stickies on the Friends and Family board is to check out some alanon meetings in your area.
