Day One for Me

I stopped drinking in 2008 and stayed sober for three months then I started drinking again. I drink every night until I pass out. I wake up in the mornings not remembering what I did the night before, hoping I didn't do anything embarrassing. I used to be very active but now don't do much of anything except drink.

I caught a cold and my chest is very congested. I'm imagining horrible things like heart failure from all my drinking. I'm afraid to go the doctor because I don't want to know but I will go just like I will stop drinking...today.

This is a great site with supportive, kind people. So glad I found it.

Here I go.

You have made the most important step, Geekie, and that is the beginning of your plan. This detox business is not new for you, so you know what to expect. If you make a plan and keep your commitment, this will be the last time you ever have to go through this.

Keep hydrated for your chest congestion, tell your Dr. everything, and do it. We are all pulling for you.

I was scared into sobriety with health issues. I was in denial, drunk from morning till night, sick & tired. I decided I needed to quit, again, this time for good. Detox was hard, but I made it, and already the heart palpitations, anxiety, and bruising have disappeared. 5 days sober, feeling better every day. This site has really helped me, it can help you too. Good luck! I wish you good health.

Thank you all for your replies. Feels good. SD777, I never related bruising to drinking, I just thought I bruised easily. Good to know.

Just dont go to your regular doctor and tell them not to put it on there record why you came in that day.

Welcome to the family and to the first day of a better life.:) I quit drinking almost two years ago with the help and support of the members here and my counselor. It's been hard sometimes but definately worth the effort.:)

Welcome GeekieGirl and MarrisaM,

That's interesting about the bruising. Apart from not drinking, going to the doctor and using this website do you have any other support?

All the best.

Yours in recovery
CaiHong
