I guess an introduction is in order..hope this is the place to start.
My story is so typical it would be repetitive to go into much detail..
other than to say I am a life long drunk with very little sober time
in the last 35 years of drinking. The longest was about 3 months.
Thanks to AA.
Back in AA as of this week and may find some peace..again.
For all those still seeking sobriety and a positive life..I hope you
find it and can pass along your sucess stories and wisdom to
those of us still suffering.
Thank You all for this site. It may help in my quest for continued
sobriety.

Welcome 06n - Glad you found us!
This place has been my lifeline, especially getting through the early days of sobriety. Lots of info and support, and lots of "lifetime drinkers" who have been able to turn things around.
Keep reading and posting and remember it's all about taking it one day at a time.

Welcome to SR!
AA is a great program and is really helping me stay sober.
FYI, upper right hand is a button to chat, there are usually people in there if you need to talk or just wanna hang out.

Good day to everyone..and thank you for
being here.
Does anyone know if there are meetings here?
Some days I can't make AA and could sure use
an alternate support group.

Welcome, I'm with Dizzy read, read, read. I read for three days before I made first post, and it was incredibly cathartic. It helps to know that your personal hell isn't that uncommon, and that sobriety is a very workable lifestyle choice. Don't be afraid to rehash your story brother. Reading those stories made a HUGE difference to me, put things on my heart I didn't know I could feel, and just made me know I could no longer be part of the problem. Stick it out man, everyday is better than the last. I'm only 12 days sober from a 240-300mg a day Oxy habit, and everyday I'm happier to see the sun rise. It's AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
Upper right hand corner of page has a link to enter chat room. There is usually someone in there to talk to...there is a group that hang out often and are always willing to talk and give support. There is a scheduled chat meeting, Fridays, 9pm est.
Thanks for the responses. Back home from work and no stops
today at the liquor store.
Will check out the chatroom...Thanks
Did find a meeting tonight in another town.
My story is a lot like everyone elses...
Didn't drink til I went in the service. Then I consumed
practically anything that would alter my mind or cause
an unconcious condition. Was forced into rehab and AA
meetings while in the Marines. As far as I was concerned
they were wrong. I was not a drunk. The folks at the meetings
were weak. I could control my booze.
I think my alchoholism was latent before that first drink..
just waiting for an opportunity to take over.
Once back in the real world I was able to fuction at a decent
level..even though I was drinking way too much. Then It got
worse. Spent the next 30 years allowing booze to become my
best friend and master. The last 5-8 years have been in and out
of recovery. Mostly out..and a lot of regrets and sadness.
Sound familiar?

So glad to have you with us, 06yz. I'm a lifelong drinker too, but I'm heading towards 4 yrs., so I know you can get that poison out of your life & keep it out. A new world awaits you, & you're not alone - you have us.
Just got back from an AA meeting. <smile>
Never went to this one. It was in another town.
I'll go back. Was kind of afraid to go but it was
great..and kept me sober this evening.
Guess I can start counting again. Day three today.
