Unhappy Can I really be free?

Hello friends! I feel everyone here knows where I am at right now, so I'm asking for some much needed help. . . I have been struggling with drugs and alcohol for 12 years now. I have been to treatment, involved myself in several different recovery programs, and actually managed to stay sober for 4 months one time. I relapse time and again, and can't seem to get a handle on it. I am currently checking out AVRT, participating in the Genesis process, and going to weekly therapy. Can I really be free of this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and my drug of choice is opiate painkillers, though I have used and/or been addicted to just about everything out there.

Sure you can.

The question is whether you have the power to bring it about yourself or not. Some do.....some, like me for example, don't. Either way though, it's entirely possible.

Welcome MemphisKitten! Yes you can be free of that stuff. I drank all my life, and now I rarely even think of alcohol. Coming here and meeting people who understood gave me courage and hope.

You sound ready to get your life back. Congratulations on realizing what must be done. We're with you on your journey.

I am no expert but working towards eliminating the desire to drink is important. Many people have done so.

MemphisKitten, please keep talking to us about how you are doing these days, and if your new cognitive techniques are working for you.
